Remington and Russell in Black and White explores works made specifically for illustration by famed Western American painters Frederic Remington and Charles Russell. Pairing the artist’s original black and white compositions alongside printed examples in books and magazines, the exhibition invites viewers to explore works created for a public fascinated by stories of the American West.

NIGHT & DAY: FREDERIC REMINGTON’S FINAL DECADE

This exhibition explores works made in the final decade of Frederic Remington’s life, when the artist alternated his canvases between the color dominant palettes of blue-green and yellow-orange. In these late works, he strove to revise his color palette, compositional structure, and brushwork as he set his Western subjects under an interchanging backdrop of the shadows of night and the dazzling light of day.

SADDLES ON PARADE: THE ARTISTRY OF EDWARD BOHLIN

In Fort Worth, the collecting rivalry between Sid Richardson and Amon Carter is legendary. In truth, the two business men were extremely close friends and constant promoters of Fort Worth. Correspondence between the two shows a constant exchange of gifts, with two of the most extravagant being the parade saddles and matching gear made by saddle maker and silversmith Edward Bohlin of Hollywood and given to Sid by Amon in 1947.
