In our exhibit, Night & Day: Frederic Remington’s Last Decade, the night sky features prominently in many of Frederic Remington’s paintings, as seen in artworks like The Luckless Hunter or Apache Medicine Song. What kind of tales did Native Americans have about the night sky? Join us for the next Tall Tales as we read and discuss They Dance in the Sky: Native American Star Myths by Jean Guard Monrow and Ray A. Williamson. This collection of Native American lore connects readers to the different sky stories of various North American tribes while also connecting readers to today’s common names of stars & constellations of each tale for those who wish to engage in their own night sky gazing.
