In A Fortune in Oils: Sid Richardson’s Personal Collection, the museum highlights Sid’s interests in art, philanthropy, cattle, and oil. It is his career in the petroleum industry that enabled him to amass one of the largest private art collections of works by Frederic Remington and Charles Russell. Sid Richardson learned the oil business from the ground up, beginning with his boom-and-bust career in 1911 hauling pipe and working on an oil well platform near Wichita Falls, Texas, followed by short stints as an oil scout in Louisiana and Texas before he made his big strike years later.
