Lecture | Painting the West in Shades of Gray: Remington and Russell’s Works Made for Print

In honor of our current exhibition, Remington and Russell in Black and White, Sid Richardson Museum director, Scott Winterrowd, will present this lecture exploring the illustration careers of Frederic Remington and Charles Russell, the leading artists who captured the passing of the Old West and popularized it through works made in grayscale specifically for reproduction in books and magazines. The talk will cover the different paths both artists took in illustration, centering each of them within their own circle of artists who were working during the period known today as the Golden Age of Illustration.
