Artist In Process | Jay Bailey

Our current exhibition, Charles M. Russell: Storyteller Across Media, features the many narratives set against the backdrop of the American West. In honor of FWADA’s Spring Gallery Night, the museum has invited local artist Jay Bailey to paint in our galleries.

Visitors can stop by between 1:00pm – 3:00pm to see the artist in process as he paints American Western landscapes. Then explore the museum and enjoy the many western paintings by Charles Russell featured in our current exhibition.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Jay Bailey was born in Reno, Nevada in 1976. He has a BA in Fine Art from the University of Nevada in Reno, undertook post-baccalaureate studies at the San Francisco Art Institute and has his MFA from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He has shown his work in group and solo exhibitions in the United States, Canada, and Australia.

Inspired by memory and fragmentation, Jay Bailey makes paintings and drawings which create a fabric of images unique to his time and place in the American West. He references a landscape of grand mountains, dramatic skies, deteriorating casinos, hidden underground music venues, dirt country roads, and western and frontier folklore.

He currently divides his time between Texas and Nevada.
