Sid’s Studio: Vintage Movie Poster Collage
In conjunction with our special exhibition The Cinematic West: The Art That Made the Movies, join us for a hands-on collage workshop for adults inspired by vintage Western film posters! Local artist and photographer Mindy Byrd will lead this creative afternoon, guiding participants through the process of designing their own 8×10 collage using magazines, specialty papers, and personal photos.
Drawing inspiration from the bold colors, dramatic compositions, and nostalgic flair of early Western movie posters, participants will experiment with collage techniques using color, texture, and shape to create their own one-of-a-kind design.
All materials will be provided, and participants are encouraged to bring a favorite photo to incorporate into their collage. A printer will be available during the workshop for printing any last-minute images.
Come ready to cut, paste, and play! Leave with a finished piece that celebrates the fun and flair of vintage poster design!
No experience necessary. Space is limited.

Teaching Artist
Hi! I’m Mindy Byrd, a commercial photographer, artist and mom currently living in Dallas Texas with my partner, two kids, two cats and dog. I graduated from The University of Texas at Arlington with a BFA in Art, going on to assist photographers in Dallas until eventually signing with The Photo Division as a fashion, beauty and product photographer. I’ve been lucky and so grateful to work with amazing clients like Adidas, Benefit Cosmetics, L’Oreal, Neiman Marcus, Net-a-Porter, Nike, Mary Kay and many more. I’ve been incorporating collage into my personal and commercial photo work since college, something that started out as purely aesthetic. Slowly, the process began to feel more and more therapeutic for me, realizing the act of using my hands to create was calming my anxious mind. I started Byrdhouse Collage in 2023, a collage side project with the goal of connecting people to their own creativity using their hands and minds. Mental health is very important to me, I hope to empower others in their own creative journey with the magic of collage.
