Lecture | Joe De Yong: Learning from the Legends

Join Michael Grauer for an engaging lecture on Joe De Yong, the only protégé of Charles Russell and a key figure in early Western art. From his childhood encounters with Will Rogers to his work with silent film star Tom Mix, De Yong’s remarkable life and career were shaped by the legends around him. Inspired by the Sid Richardson Museum’s current exhibition, The Cinematic West: The Art That Made the Movies, which features some of his works, this talk highlights De Yong’s artistic development and enduring contributions to the visual culture of the American West.

Speaker:

  • Michael Grauer, Independent Scholar, Former McCasland Chair of Cowboy Culture/Curator of Cowboy Collections & Western Art at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum
